South Australia's Electricity Prices Are Still Among the Highest in the Country
If your power bill has been making you wince lately, you're not alone. South Australian households are paying some of the highest electricity prices in Australia, with the average annual bill sitting at around$2,301 per year — that's roughly $575 per quarter, based on the Australian Energy Regulator's Default Market Offer for 2025–26.
And it's not getting easier. According to recent data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, electricity costs rose 37% in the 12months to February 2026. (Source: fenro.com.au) Retail prices across Australian states increased between 2.9% and 5.1% year-on-year in 2026, with South Australia's reliance on gas backup making it particularly exposed to price volatility.
How Solar and Battery Rebates Have Changed in 2026

Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) — For Solar Panels, Applied at Point of Sale
STCs are the backbone of Australia's federal solar incentive for solar panels. When you install an eligible solar panel system, your accredited installer generates STCs on your behalf and passes the discount straight off your invoice — no forms, no waiting, no hassle.
For a typical 6.6kW solar system in SA, the STC discount in 2026 is around $1,800 to $2,600 off your upfront cost.
Important to know: The STC deeming period reduces by one year every January, which means the number of STCs, and the discount, gradually decreases over time. The longer you wait, the smaller the rebate.
The Federal Battery Rebate - A Game Changer Since July2025
One of the biggest shifts in 2026 is the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, launched by the Australian Government in July 2025. This program provides an upfront discount of around 30% on eligible home battery systems, applied directly to your quote by your installer. (Source: energy.gov.au)
What's changed from 1 May 2026:
The program expanded its budget from $2.3 billion to $7.2billion over four years, with the goal of supporting over 2 million battery installations by 2030. However, to ensure the budget lasts, the rebate calculation changed on 1 May 2026 to a tiered structure based on battery size:
Battery Capacity Factor Applied
0 – 14 kWh 100%
14 – 28 kWh 60%
28 – 50 kWh 15%
In simple terms, smaller batteries still attract a strong discount, while larger systems receive proportionally less. The rebate will also decrease every six months through to 2030, so the sooner you install, the more you save.

Skip the Rebate Headache – Introducing the Anytime Solar& Battery Plan
Keeping up with changing rebates, FiT rates, STC deeming periods, and tiered battery discounts can feel overwhelming. That's exactly why we created the Anytime Solar & Battery Plan, a simpler, smarter way to go solar without the stress.
What makes it different:
✅ $0 Deposit. $0 Upfront. $0 Interest.
No deposit. No interest charges. No hidden fees. You get a fully customised solar and battery system installed on your home without spending a single dollar to get started. This isn't a lease, you are building towards owning your system outright.
✅ Pay Less Than Your Current Power Bill From Day 1
Your Anytime Solar & Battery Plan repayments are structured to be less than what you're currently paying for electricity. With SA household spaying up to $2,301 per year on power bills, and that number rising every July, your repayments replace your bill with a lower, fixed monthly cost. You save money from the very first month.
✅ Own Your System In A Few Years - Paid Off by Your Energy Savings
Unlike a lease or power purchase agreement, you're paying off a system you own outright. Most of our customers fully own their system in 2 to 5 years, or even less, after which, the energy savings are essentially free for the life of the system.
The great thing about the Anytime Solar & Battery Plan is that you can pay off your system at your own pace. Want to pay it off sooner? No problem, there are no penalties and no restrictions. You have 100%control over your payments.
